It was exciting to participate in the Roots of Empathy program this year with Esther. For those of you who do not know about the Roots of Empathy Program I will explain. Starting at the beginning of the school year, some of the elementary classes and the junior high classes have a baby come in once a month to watch it grow and develope throughout the year. They learn about a babies development and temperment, what to do and not do to a baby, and how a baby communicates itself to others. It was fun going to a grade 5 class with Esther. They watched her grow from 4 months to 12 months. They saw her learn to sit up by herself, cut her first teeth, crawl, and towards the end walk. At the last visit it was hard to say good-bye to everyone in the class, and I know that Esther will miss her new friends. At the graduation ceremony all the babies got a graduation T-Shirt, and grad cap and a diploma (a certificate that states that her kindergarden fees have been paid for). It is almost worth having a summer baby! Esther was the oldest baby in the program and her cousin Ethan was the youngest! It was special for me too being able to participate in it because I was able to appretiate my daughter more and notice the little things that she was able to learn to do each month. She is a special girl!
